Nomad’s Land is the debut full-length collaboration between Albuquerque lyricist Def-I and producer Phillipdrummond, a New York City native who has called Oakland and the East Bay home since 2004. Released on Broken Complex Records, the album traces a powerful thematic arc—from inner space to outer space, from the wounds of the past to the wide-open terrain of healing, imagination, and liberation.
Shaped by real lived stories and generational currents, Nomad’s Land explores post-traumatic landscapes, resilience, identity, movement, and the shifting territories we occupy—physically, emotionally, spiritually. It embraces both sci-fi futurism and ancestral memory, blending grounded storytelling with cosmic possibility.
Phillipdrummond’s production forms the backbone of the album: melodic, emotional, hard-hitting, gritty, thoughtful, and ethereal—often all at once. His beats stretch across a spectrum, from deep, reflective spaces to raw, neck-snapping percussion, yet everything remains tied together by a cohesive sonic DNA. It’s music built for wandering, for searching, for transforming.
Def-I’s lyricism moves through these soundscapes with clarity and intention. His verses travel between worlds—addressing displacement, survival, community, and self-determination—while uplifting pathways toward healing and future-building. His cadence acts as the guide through Phillipdrummond’s shifting galaxies of sound.
Together, Def-I and Phillipdrummond craft an album that feels at once deeply rooted and fearlessly futuristic—an odyssey that begins within, expands outward, and never stops moving. Nomad’s Land is a debut, but it’s also a launch: a transmission from two artists whose journeys have crossed regions, cultures, and inner worlds.
